Spain, never before have I ever thought that I would be rooting for them in a tournament. Not until our own ex-Barca wonderkid was playing regularly for us did I ever feel the need to support an European team outside of my own country. Never before since the days of Henry, have I strongly supported the French to dominate the field and impose themselves as masters of footie-ball. Where once the legendary talisman has left defenders in his wake and scoring ruthlessly, the now-Barca striker has been left wondering "...if only my fellow Frenchmen could support me like how Bergkamp and Vieira did at Highbury...", France might just lift another Euro trophy.
Nonetheless, like many Arsenal fans all over the world, Spain has become the preferred choice at the 2008 Euro Champs. Though Cesc became labelled as the terrifyingly-supersub, he looked really upset when he was replaced by Alonso in the 2nd-half of the Final against Germany. With the score already 1-0, Aragones wasn't going to risk any German atempts to score.
So we all know how it went - Spain topped their group, which included Russia (meeting them in the semis), Sweden and Greece. Cesc had the final spotkick against Italy in the q-finals, sending Buffon the wrong way and Spanish hearts the right way. Russia couldn't hold back the Spanish armada and Germany tried too late to salvage anything from the final game.
With that, the club season will be starting soon and the transfer dealings will start to hot up. Ade has become the next Flamoney, with reports & his agent stating that our beloved club should "pay him for what he is worth". Like I said (and many other Gooners), just go! Both Hleb and Ade should make way for EVEN better players who could score at a higher rate than them. With the Nasri saga still ding-donging and an unknown Portugese Under-21/Frenchman, Amaury Bischoff's arrival looking more imminent than Nasri's, we are still hanging on to speculations as to what Le Boss plans to do.
All of us look forward to the new season and we are hoping the draught ends in 2008/09.
